It appears that Falcons QB Kirk Cousins isn't going anywhere just yet
The Atlanta Falcons have yet to make a decision on quarterback Kirk Cousins, who signed with the team last offseason on a four-year, $180 million deal. His cap hit of $25 million jumps to $40 million in 2025. The team has a potential out following the 2025 season, dropping his dead cap hit from $57.5 million to $45 million if cut after next season.
The expectation is that the Falcons will move on from Cousins in favor of last year's first round draft pick Michael Penix Jr. The southpaw quarterback led Atlanta to a win in week 16 over the hapless Giants, 34-7. His other two starts finished as overtime losses against Washington and Carolina to close out the year.
Getting back to Cousins, his presence on the roster through Saturday triggers more guaranteed money on the books for the Falcons. The former Washington and Minnesota quarterback will be owed a $10 million roster bonus to be paid in 2026 due to his roster status.

Cousins did meet with the owner to make his intentions clear, that he wanted to start in 2025. While it appears the team is moving forward with Penix as the penciled in starter, the team hasn't made a move with Cousins just yet. Having a veteran like Cousins has its benefits, including but not limited to mentoring a young quarterback.
