Inzaghi gives Inter updates, calls Bayern Munich ‘Champions League favourites’

Simone Inzaghi gives an injury update ahead of Inter’s Champions League quarter-final, claiming Bayern Munich are ‘the big favourites for the trophy with Real Madrid.’

The first leg kicks off at the Allianz Arena in Munich on Wednesday at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

The Nerazzurri missed out on the play-offs after finishing in the top eight during the opening league phase of the tournament and are hoping to go all the way.

“Without doubt, it is beautiful to be here. It will be a difficult quarter-final against a great team in a gorgeous stadium, but we know how hard we worked to get here and will take our chances,” Inzaghi told Sky Sport Italia.

Inter fumbled a 2-0 lead on Saturday in Serie A to be held 2-2 by Parma, so risk seeing Napoli close the gap at the top of the table.

“Inter are in good shape, with a few issues, just like all teams do when they play this often. We are pleased with our Champions League, Serie A and Coppa Italia progress, when we return home, there will be a day and a half to prepare for the next match, and so on and so forth,” added Inzaghi.

“It is a long and intense campaign, but we are very proud to be here.”

Kristjan Asllani is suspended and Joaquin Correa is ineligible for the Champions League, but there are big injury doubts over Alessandro Bastoni, Federico Dimarco and Hakan Calhanoglu.

“With regards to Bastoni and Calhanoglu trained with the squad this morning, so they need to be evaluated, while Dimarco worked separately. Lautaro Martinez was only meant to play the first half at Parma, but played 70 minutes. He is fine and I think he will play tomorrow,” explained the coach.

“We get Barella back from suspension, lose Asllani to a ban, while Correa is not on the UEFA list. It’s the usual injury absentees, Zielinski, Dumfries and Taremi.”

Bayern Munich have a massive injury crisis to deal with, missing the likes of Jamal Musiala, Hiroki Ito, Manuel Neuer, Kingsley Coman, Dayot Upamecano, Alphonso Davies, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Tarek Buchmann.

“They are an experienced squad, they have absences just like Inter. They press hard, are intense and for many years have gone far in this competition, so along with Real Madrid they are the big favourites for the trophy, but we are still coming here to play a great game,” added Inzaghi.
