Do the Arizona Cardinals regret drafting receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.? That's a hilarious question.
How did this come up? Former NFL scout John Middlekauff said it on Colin Cowherd's show on FS1via SI.com.
"Once you get in the NFL, All I heard last year was like, ‘Marvin Harrison's floor is so high. Malik [Nabers] could be boom or bust,’ he said. "And then you watch, you're like, 'You don't think the Arizona Cardinals regret not going Malik Nabers over Marvin Harrison Jr.?’ Because they do. And the Giants benefited from them making that choice."
To be clear, Middlekauff was not speaking with any sort of authority on the Cardinals. He was not part of the team that drafted Harrison. He was not reporting that someone within the organization said the Cardinals regretted not drafting Malik Nabers.
He was simply saying that, putting Harrison's rookie season of 62 catches for 885 yards and eight touchdowns side-by-side with Nabers' 109 catches, 1,204 yards and nine touchdowns, it would be hard not to wish Harrison's numbers were more like Nabers'.
However, context is needed. Nabers was nearly the only offensive option the Giants had on a three-win team. Harrison's numbers came on a team that competed for the division and on a team with tight end Trey McBride catching 111 passes and running back James Conner rushing for nearly 1,100 yards.
Do the Cardinals wish Harrison had put up numbers like Nabers? Sure. That isn't regretting the selection. They love Harrison's talent. They love his work ethic. They love what he adds to the team.
So let's not twist the words. This isn't a report from someone in the organization. This is like any other talking head giving an opinion. This talking head just happened to have been a scout once.
