Hurricanes’ Jai Lucas adds two more transfers to first UM roster

New Miami Hurricanes basketball coach Jai Lucas continues to use the transfer portal to build the roster for his first Hurricanes team.

UM secured a commitment from Michigan transfer Tre Donaldson on Thursday. On Friday, Miami landed former TCU transfer Ernest Udeh Jr. The pair of new transfers join guard Malik Reneau on the team.

Donaldson, a Tallahassee native, was the first to announce his pledge. The former Wolverines guard was a two-sport star in high school, originally signing with Auburn to play basketball and football. Donaldson transferred to Michigan after two seasons at Auburn and started all 37 games the Wolverines played.

Last season, Donaldson averaged a career-best 11.3 points with 4.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds. He is a threat from three-point range, averaging 38.8 percent for his career. Donaldson helped Michigan reach the Sweet 16 last month.

Udeh, a 6-foot-11 forward, spent his first season at Kansas but transferred to TCU before the 2023-24 season. Like Donaldson, he is a Florida native; Udeh is from Orlando. He was a McDonald’s All-American coming out of Dr. Phillips High.

Udeh was a two-year starter for the Horned Frogs. He averaged 5.5 points with 6.4 rebounds per game over his two years at TCU. In 2024-25, Udeh had a career-high 6.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
