HS roundup: Cousins homers twice, Rittinger strikes out 13 in win over Zane Trace

Chillicothe 7, Zane Trace 2: The Cavaliers jumped out to a 2-0 score in the first inning, but it was Bri Cousins' home runs that were the star of the show. She got her first one in the second inning - a solo shot - that made it 3-0. Down 4-0 in the top of the fifth, Zane Trace scored two. Reagan Arthurs singled a line drive to left, and then Kaydance Burkitt reached on an error. Arthurs then stole third while Burkitt stole second. Arthurs would score when Grace Lyon reached on an error, and then Burkitt scored on another error to round out the scoring for the Pioneers. But Cousins hit another — this time a scoring three in the bottom of the fifth. Cousins went 2-for-3 on the day. C.J. Rittinger strick out 13, going seven innings and allowing just two hits. Brynn Wipert pitched six innings, gave up three earned runs and struck out seven in the loss.

Waverly 7, Adena 2 (game suspended): Rain caused the game at Adena to be suspended during the bottom of the third. The date it will resume has not yet been set. Before the suspension, Waverly's Whitley Brown hit a three-run homer to right field to give the Tigers a 5-0 lead in the top of the first. Adena would get one back in the bottom of the first when Marly Halcomb hit a solo shot.

North Adams 16, Huntington 14: In a game that ended up going nine innings, Huntington came out with a loss but still had a strong day by Taylor Tisdale. She went 5-for-5 with two runs, three RBIs, and a stolen base. Savannah Bushatz went 2-for 5, hitting her first home run of the season to tie the game at 13 in the seventh. Allie Baker went 3-of-6 with three runs, an RBI and a stolen base. Tori Smith went 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI. Kaylee Kendall went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Julie Kight went 2-for-5 with two RBIs. All told, the Lady Huntsmen had 20 hits in the game.

Monday

Southeastern 6, Athens 5: Kylie Williams pitched a complete game, allowing three runs and striking out nine for the Panthers. Jade Turner went 2-for-4 with two runs, three RBIs and a double. Ally Fisher went 2-for-4 with a run. Dylan Skaggs went 1-of-1, scoring twice and had one double.

Huntington 12, Western 2: Taylor Tisdale went 2-of-3 with a home run, scored twice, and had three RBIs with a double and a stolen base to lead Huntington. Gracie Slaughter got the win, going five innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out four. Svannah Bushatz went 2-of04 with two runs, two RBIs, two doubles and a stolen base. Kaci Carroll went 2-of-2 for two runs, an RBI and a double.

Piketon 17, Portsmouth West 4: Kyndall Carroll got the win going six innings, with three earned runs and four strikeouts. She also went 1-of-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Aubrey Heath was 4-of-4 with two runs, three RBIs, a triple and double. Jaylin Forbes went 3-of-5 with two runs, three RBIs, two doubles and a stolen base.

McClain 10, Unioto 9: Mackenzie Welch hit her first homer of the season, going 2-of-5 with three RBIs for the Shermans. Haylee Hull went 3-of-5 with two runs, two RBIs and a double. Macie Cox was 2-of-2 with an RBI, while Maddie Tuttle went 2-of-4 with a double and scored a run.

Eastern Brown 16, Zane Trace 5: Haylynn Boggess-Pierce led the way for the Pioneers, going 3-of-3, with three runs, an RBI, hitting a double and getting one steal. Laynie Scott went 2-of-4 with a run and two RBI.

Saturday

Adena 16, Fairland 6 (game one): In the season opener, the Warriors' bats were on fire. Jo Jett was 3-of-4, with two doubles, three RBIs and a run. Lexi Pettit went 2-of-4, with three RBIs and two runs. Marly Halcomb was 1-of-2 with a double, an RBI, and scored three runs while recording a steal and two walks. Adelynn Nelson was 1-of-2 with three RBIs and three runs. Allie Bossert was the winning pitcher, going two innings, allowing no runs and striking out four.

Adena 13, Fairland 3 (game two): Marly Halcomb hit her first home run of the season, going 4-of-4 with two RBIs, scored four times and had one steal to lead the Warriors. Adriana Guarnieri was 2-of-4, with two doubles, three RBI and scoring a run. Addy Cottrill went 2-of-2, with an RBI, and scored. Kelsea Brown went 2-of-3, with 2 RBIs and run scored., Allie Bossert got the win while striking out four.

Piketon 16, Chesapeake 3 (game one): Aubrey Heath went 3-of-3 with two home runs, a double, scoring three times and recording four RBIs and a stolen base. Kyndall Carroll was the winning pitcher, going five innings with no earned runs, and four strikeouts. She also went 2-of-3 at the plate with a double and two RBI.

Piketon 25, Chesapeake 0 (game two): Addy Blakeman had a homer while going 4-of-5 with a double, scoring four times, recording five RBIs, and stealing two bases. She also struck our four in two innings of work. Saydi Childers was the winning pitcher, going three innings, allowing three hits and striking out two. Jaylin Forbes went 3-of-3 with a home run and scoring four times and had five RBIs. Dani Ritchie went 3-of-3 with two doubles, score dsice and had four stolen bases. Aubrey Heath hit her third home run of the season, going 2-of-2, scoring five runs and recording four RBIs.

Tuesday

Chillicothe 3, Wayne 0: The Cavaliers won 25-16, 25-15, 27-25. Mercer Cutright led the team in aces with 8, while Jace Copley had four and David Rourke had three. Carter Dunfee led the way with 7 kills, while JB Maravilla and Cutright each had four. Rourke had 19 assists. Santos Garcia had 10 digs, while Dunfee and Rourke had six each. Ron Oyer, Brendyn Brown, and Jace Copley each had one block. The JV team won 2-0. CHS will next play away at RCCA on April 1.

Monday

Baldwin Wallace 3, Chillicothe 0: The Cavaliers lost their first game of the season 25-12, 25-19, 25-17. Carter Dunfee had five kills, while David Rourke and Mercer Cutright each had three. Rourke led assists with 10. Jace Copley had two aces. Sunny Garcia had 8 digs and Cutright and Dunfee each had four. Copley had two blocks and Dunfee had one.
