Apr. 2—Holy Redeemer named Vito Quaglia as its new head football coach on Tuesday.
Quaglia replaces Tyson Kelley, who resigned shortly after this past season. Kelley finished with a 7-48 record in his six seasons.
Quaglia brings plenty of coaching experience to the Royals. He was the head coach at Delaware Valley in 1997 and 1998. He was also a volunteer assistant coach at Hanover Area in 1999 and at Wyoming Area from 2012-2014. He was an assistant at Pittston Area from 2017-2019 and again in 2023.
Quaglia was also the head softball coach at Pittston Area from 2015-2019, winning two district championships. He is currently a principal in the Riverside School District.
The Redeemer football program has struggled since it was founded in 2007 after the merger of area Catholic schools. The Royals have never posted a winning season and have gone winless six times, including in 2024. Their best season was 2022 when they went 4-7 and qualified for the District 2 playoffs for the only time.
Redeemer currently has a 21-game losing streak. The program left the Wyoming Valley Conference last year and played an independent schedule.
Quaglia will be the eighth head coach in the program's history.
