H.S. BASEBALL: Blue Mountain lets Wyomissing walk past them at home

ORWIGSBURG — Blue Mountain lost command in the fourth inning when they let Wyomissing cross home plate four times on the way to a 7-3 loss at home Saturday morning.

The Eagles (3-3) walked a total of 10 batters, including the first six walks in the first three innings.

Aiden Finn got the start for the Eagles and walked the first three batters in the fourth inning before he was met with a two-run single and another pair of RBI hits and the 4-0 Blue Mountain deficit.

“I think we walked 10 batters so if we don’t walk 10 and we catch a ball here and there the outcome of the game is a lot different,” said Blue Mountain head coach Jarrod Kramer.

Blue Mountain struck with one run in the bottom of the fourth and another two runs in the seventh inning but it wasn’t enough in a four run loss.

Wyomissing (3-1) was led at the plate by Noah Rauenzahn and Teddy White’s two RBI’s and two hits apiece.

The Spartans got on Finn with three walks to start the third inning. It was followed by a Rauenzahn two-run single into right field for the 2-0 lead.

“They’re good offensively but if we could throw some strikes it’d be different,” said Kramer. “We can live with it if they hit the ball but we want them to earn it.”

Another walk followed before Cole Senesig flew out to right field to plate another run for the 3-0 lead.

The next at bat saw Wyomissing’s White single to left field to score Rauenzahn for the 4-0 lead heading to the bottom of the third.

The Eagles loaded the bases in the b3-ottom of the fourth before Cohen Kirby walked with the bases loaded to plate Ryan Clemas for the 4-1 deficit.

“We did a good job of getting runners on base but we didn’t capitalize and we had runners in scoring position,” said Kramer. “Another hit or two and we’re right in it.”

Wyomissing made their final charge in the top of the seventh when they had three runs cross home plate.

White singled to left field for the 5-1 lead before Daniel Noey singled to third base for the 6-1 lead and Derek Macrina grounded into a double play to score White for the 7-1 advantage.

The Eagles didn’t go away without a fight in the bottom of the seventh. Riley Sebastian singled to right field to score Josh Hoover to make it a 7-2 difference.

Two batters later, Kirby grounded out to third base to score Clemas for the 7-3 deficit and eventual final score.

“That’s what the non-league games are for to try to figure some things out with guys who haven’t played as much,” said Kramer. “We play a tough non-league schedule.”

Chase Bailey earned the win for Wyomissing, allowing just one run on four hits with three strikeouts through five innings.

Finn took the loss for Blue Mountain when he worked three innings and allowed four runs on just two hits with six walks.
