How Much Would It Cost The Canucks To Re-Sign Pius Suter?
Once the season is complete, a big talking points surrounding the Vancouver Canucks will be the re-sign price of pending free agent Pius Suter. The 28-year-old has already set a new career high in goals with 21, while his 36 points rank sixth on the Canucks. With the cap rising, Suter is projected to receive a significant pay raise, which could price him out of Vancouver.

This season, Suter is carrying a cap hit of $1.6 million, which ranks eighth among Canucks forwards. He is outperforming his contract and has developed into one of the best penalty-killing forwards in the NHL. Ultimately, Suter is going to receive some significant offers this off-season, as teams should be lining up to acquire a player as versatile as him.
According to AFP Analytics, Suter is projected to sign a four-year deal which carries a cap hit of just under $4 million. With the cap rising to $95 million next season, Suter would have a cap percentage of 4.2%. For reference, that is around the same cap percentage as Max Domi of the Toronto Maple Leafs, whose cap hit is $3.75 million this season.
While Suter fits in well with Vancouver's system, re-signing him will not be an easy task. As mentioned, he will be highly coveted this off-season and has earned the right to at least explore what other teams are willing to offer. In the end, losing Suter is not ideal, but may be the Canucks only option considering the raise he will receive once his contract expires.
