How much has Augusta National Golf Club changed after Hurricane Helene? 'They do magic out here'

The early reviews are in and … Augusta National Golf Club doesn’t look much different than before.

For the final round of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, Saturday was the first day patrons and the media had a chance to see how the course recovered from a direct hit from Hurricane Helene on Sept. 27, 2024.

The Category 1 hurricane, with winds clocked at 82 mph, knocked out power in the Augusta area for days and took down at least 1,000 trees at Augusta National. The National Hurricane Center reported that nearly 400 homes were destroyed and 3,000 more had major damage.

The fallout is still evident around town, with huge tree stumps remaining on the sides of some roads ― but not at Augusta National.

With six months to prepare for the 2025 Masters Tournament, Augusta National replaced many of the downed trees, though some aren’t as tall as the previous ones. There are areas, especially between the adjoining first and ninth fairways, where trees were not replaced.
