Hornell holds off Chenango Forks in NYSPHSAA Class B girls basketball semifinal
Chenango Forks came up short in its comeback bid from a 17-point deficit and lost to Hornell, 53-47, in a New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class B girls basketball semifinal Friday at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.
Raegan Evingham, Selena Maldonado and Jordyn Dyring combined to score 51 points for Hornell (22-3).
Chenango Forks, making its first appearance in a state semifinal, finished with a 20-6 record after winning back-to-back Section 4 titles.
Section 5 titlist Hornell advanced to play Section 8 champion Cold Spring Harbor in the championship game, set for 6 p.m. Saturday at the same site. The Red Raiders are seeking their first state championship.
Cold Spring Harbor was a 62-32 winner over Section 2's Voorheesville in Friday's first semifinal.

Hornell Stars of the Game
Evingham led the Raiders with 18 points and hit four of seven attempts from 3-point range. She added 6 rebounds.
Maldonado scored 17 points and went 9-for-10 at the foul line. She had 3 steals.
Dyring's effort included 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Forks Stars of the Game
Jordyn Ericksen-Hrehor was high scorer for Chenango Forks with 11 points.
Reaghan Hughes added 10 points and made two of the Blue Devils' three 3-pointers.
Maggie Warpus contributed 8 points, 16 rebounds and 5 steals.
Jaidyn Ericksen-Hreror chipped in 7 points and Lauren Paske scored 6.
Deciding moments
The Red Raiders closed the third quarter with a 15-2 run to lead 42-25 after grabbing a 21-15 halftime advantage.
Forks responded with its own 15-2 surge to get within 44-40 with just over three minutes remaining.
Dyring, a second-team all-state pick in 2023-24, swished a 3-pointer from near the corner to put the Raiders up, 47-40, with 2:21 to play.
Hornell hit six straight foul shots in the final minute to withstand a 3-pointer from Hughes and a bucket from Warpus that made it 51-47 with 17 seconds remaining.
