Here’s why North DeSoto’s Kenny Thomas has committed to Louisiana Tech football

Speedy North DeSoto running back Kenny Thomas has verbally committed to sign with Louisiana Tech football this fall.

The 2024 Shreveport Times All-Area Offensive Player of the Year, who rushed for nearly 2,000 yards last season, likes what he sees in the Conference USA program.

“The Tech family and coaching staff believed in me when I was a 140-pound sophomore,” Thomas said. “Academically, they align perfectly with my academic, as well as athletic, goals.”

The similarities between Ruston and Stonewall were also a selling point for the junior.

“The program’s culture and coaching staff, I feel, care about myself and my family just as much as the X’s and O’s in the playbook,” Thomas said. “Being that Ruston and Stonewall align in the small, hometown feel, that’s very important to me. I have to give all glory to God for allowing me to play the sport that I love on a college level. I believe that Tech is the place for me.”

The 5-foot-8, 165-pound Thomas carried the ball 240 times for 1,932 yards and 31 TDs in 13 games last fall. He fumbled just once and averaged 8.05 yards per tote while earning All-District 1-4A top honors.

In addition to Tech, he has visited Louisiana Lafayette and has upcoming visits planned to Grambling, Northwestern State and Tulane.

North DeSoto's Kenny Thomas scored three times against Huntington Friday night to lead the Griffin ground game.
