Barcelona’s Kryptonite – A look at Atletico Madrid forward’s terrifying streak against the Catalans
Alexander Sorloth has emerged as one of the biggest threats to Barcelona’s defence in recent times.
The towering Norwegian striker has made a habit of scoring against the Catalan side, finding the back of the net in five consecutive encounters, regardless of the club he represents.
The story of Sorloth’s dominance over Barcelona began on 20 May 2023. At the time, he was playing for Real Sociedad, and that day, he played a crucial role in his team’s victory at Camp Nou, contributing both a goal and an assist.
Following that match, he did not face Barcelona again for the remainder of the season.
Then he moved to Villarreal
However, after moving to Villarreal, Sorloth continued his tormenting run against the Catalans.
He scored in both league fixtures—once in the first half of the season and again in the second.

During Villarreal’s memorable triumph at Barcelona’s home ground, he not only found the net but also provided two assists, proving instrumental in his side’s victory.
Now at Atletico Madrid
His ability to punish Barcelona did not fade when he left Villarreal. Now wearing Atletico Madrid’s number 9 shirt, the Norwegian has become a key figure in his new club’s clashes against Flick’s men.
In La Liga, he scored the decisive goal that secured Diego Simeone’s first away win against Barcelona, ensuring Atletico claimed the symbolic winter leadership of La Liga table after a hard-fought 90 minutes.
A few weeks later, in the Copa del Rey, Sorloth struck again, scoring a crucial equaliser in stoppage time to level the tie ahead of the second leg at the Metropolitano.
With the league title now on the line, the Norwegian remains a central figure in Atletico’s plans, making him the player Barcelona must fear the most.
