Grace Elliott Named The U Sports Player of the Year, Major Award Winners Announced
Grace Elliott of the University of British Columbia has been named the 2024-25 U Sports Women's Hockey Player of the Year.
Elliott, the Brodrick Trophy winner, finished the season as the top scoring player in Canadian university hockey. Elliott finished with 22 goals and 42 points, 10 points ahead of the second leading scorer in the nation.
A fourth year forward from White Rock, British Columbia, Elliot's goal and point totals were new University of British Columbia records. She also led Canada West with a +28 rating. Elliott is the first player in UBC history to be named U Sports Player of the Year.
All-Canadians Announced
Elliott was joined as a First Team All-Canadian by Concordia forward Emilie Lussier and Waterloo forward Carly Orth. On the blueline, Nipissing defender Madison Laberge and Concordia's Leonie Philbert were recognized, while goaltender Grace Beer from Dalhousie rounded out the First Team All-Canadians.
The U Sports Second Team All-Canadians were Mount Royal's Aliya Johma, Nipissing's Maggie McKee, Bishop's Maude Pépin and Daphné Boutin, St. FX's Mackenzie Lothian, and Alberta's Grace Glover.
Boutin was also named to the U Sports All-Rookie team. She was joined by Clara Chisholm (Wilfrid Laurier), Noémie Fontaine (Bishop's), Naomi Morin (Ottawa), Sydney Hood (Brock), and Sarah Howell (Wilfrid Laurier).
Chu Named Coach of the Yea For Second Straight Season
Julie Chu, head coach of the Concordia Stingers, was named the U Sports Fox40 Coach of the Year for the season straight season. The Stingers were 20-1-0 this season.
She was one of two other major award winners honoured Wednesday night ahead of the opening day of the U Sports National Championships, hosted by the Waterloo Warriors.
Elise Hugens was named the Marion Hilliard Award as the U Sports student-athlete community service award winner.
Daphne Boutin became the second straight player from Bishop's University to be named the U Sports Rookie of the Year.
