Nebraska clinches series over Minnesota with 8-3 victory
The No. 21 Huskers (22-8, 3-1) entered their second game of the series with Minnesota (13-17, 2-4) on Saturday afternoon. Nebraska clinched the series over the Golden Gophers in the clash, walking away with an 8-3 victory.
Though Minnesota got on the board first in the opening inning, the Huskers jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fourth. The Golden Gophers almost took the lead back in the fifth during a two-out rally, scoring two runs and loading up the bases.
But Nebraska got the final out to halt the rally and held Minnesota to one hit, one walk, and no runs across the final two innings. The team finished with 12 hits for six RBIs, while the Golden Gophers delivered nine hits for three RBIs.
The Huskers earned their win in front of 2,473 spectators, the fourth-largest crowd at home in school history. The team also had their first win of the season without hitting a home run.
Hannah Camenzind (4-2) led Nebraska both at the plate and in the pitching circle. She hit 2-for-3 for three RBIs while striking out a career-high seven batters across the first 4.2 innings.
Jordyn Bahl pitched the final 2.1 innings and held Minnesota scoreless to pick up her first save of the season. She also finished 1-for-2 at the plate to extend her hitting streak to 14 games.
Ava Kuszak, Ava Bredwell and Samantha Bland all finished with two hits apiece while Kuszak, Olivia DiNardo and Kacie Hoffman all chipped in one RBI.
The Huskers conclude the series with the Golden Gophers on Sunday. The first pitch is set for noon on Big Ten Plus.
