FSU wants to use $25 million in Doak savings for new jumbotron, more renovations
Florida State Athletics is seeking approval from the Florida Board of Governors for further renovation to Doak Campbell Stadium and the construction of its women's lacrosse facility.
The university will ask the Board of Governors to approve an amendment to its $265 million loan agreement that covers renovations to Doak in a March 26 meeting to add a new jumbotron to the stadium.
FSU said in an agenda item that it "achieved estimated cost savings of approximately $25 million" in its Doak renovations and the university wants to "expand its scope" and divert the savings into a "new jumbotron and conduct renovations throughout the stadium, not just the west and south sections."
Fans who attended games last season at Doak were aware of the Seminoles' jumbotron issues.
Multiple games featured broken pixels or black spots on the university's endzone screens as fans peered toward the jumbotrons for highlights and score updates.
The renovations to Doak are scheduled to be completed in July, well before the Seminoles' 2025 season opener against visiting Alabama in late August.
Seminole Boosters have been taking hard hat tours of the stadium as construction of new club seats, concourses and seatbacks continue.
Outside of Doak, FSU is also currently constructing its $138 million football-only facility. The project is expected to be complete in late August, with the football team moving into the facility in early September.

FSU seeks approval of $12 million women's lacrosse stadium construction
Alongside the amendment to the $265 million Doak renovations, FSU is asking the Board of Governors for approval to spend $12 million in "auxiliary funds for an internal loan" on construction for the new women's lacrosse stadium.
The university added women's lacrosse to its varsity sports lineup in October of 2023 and the program will compete in the 2025-26 academic year. The announcement came less than 18 months after a USA TODAY investigation revealed FSU was not in compliance with Title IX.
In November the FSU Board of Trustees approved a $12 million loan to athletics for the construction of the stadium. The money comes from the university's administrative auxiliary reserve account.
The agenda item states that the school currently has $53 million in the reserve account, which is comprised of funds from different revenue streams.
They are listed here:
- HEERF ($33 million)
- Strategic sourcing revenues ($6.6 million)
- Insurance Recovery ($3.6 million)
- interest earnings ($1.9 million)
- P-Card Rebate Program ($637 thousand)
