Former MSU assistant Tom Crean thinks the Spartans have what it takes to make a deep run
Michigan State basketball is headed to the NCAA Tournament for the 27th consecutive year, with Tom Izzo in his 30th year at the helm in East Lansing. When it all started in 1995, Izzo brought over assistant coach Tom Crean from Pittsburgh.
Crean stuck with Izzo through the 1999 season, helping Izzo make his first final four appearance. Crean moved on to a long, successful coaching career, that saw him make stops at Marquette, Indiana and Georgia.
Now, away from coaching, and currently a TV analyst with ESPN, Crean spends his time talking about the game. While not on his TV show, but as a guest on the Up and Adams Show with Kay Adams, Crean spoke at length about the Michigan State basketball team and his former boss.
When asked about Izzo and this year's Michigan State team, Crean responded with a resounding endorsement of Izzo and this Spartan squad:
"Oh they're there, yeah. I do think this is the closest he's been because for whatever weaknesses they have offensively when they're not shooting the ball well, they make up for it with getting steals, layups."
Tom Crean believes his longtime friend & mentor, HC Tom Izzo, and Michigan St. has what it takes to WIN it ALL this March Madness. 😤@heykayadams | @TomCrean | @MSU_Basketball | @MarchMadnessMBBpic.twitter.com/57Vq54rJTy

Crean has his eyes set high for Michigan State, like much of the Spartans fan base.
