Former Longhorn signs one-year deal with Kansas City Chiefs
Former Longhorn Charles Omenihu will continue to call Kansas City home. The talented 27-year-old signed a one-year deal worth $7 million to stay with the Chiefs on Thursday night. It will mark his third season with the team he has won two championships with.
During the 2024 campaign, Omenihu appeared in six games and recorded six total tackles. He also added one sack to his resume. While those statistics may not jump off the page, the former fifth-round pick thrived in the postseason before tearing his ACL in the Chiefs win over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship game.
In three playoff games, the Chiefs defensive end recorded nine tackles and forced one fumble. He made life difficult for offensive coordinators and was a pleasant surprise as Kansas City moved closer to making history. Entering the 2024 season, he had 13 tackles on his first four trips to the playoffs and was on pace to match that before getting hurt.

Since joining the Chiefs, Omenihu has flashed the form that made him a very productive player with Texas. After taking his talents to the Midwest in 2023, he set career highs in tackles with 28 and quarterback hits with 11. His productivity when healthy is one of the reasons the Chiefs wanted Omenihu back in their defense.
When the 2025 campaign begins, Omenihu should again be a valuable depth piece. After stints with the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers, he has found a system that brings out the best in his skill set. In the playoffs, Omenihu showed that there was more to his game. The Chiefs hope that he can build on that success once fully healthy and help them capture another title.
