Apr. 5—LEWISTON, Minn. — The Fools Five Road Race and Auction has raised more than $100,000 for cancer research this year, race organizers announced on Saturday, April 5. More than 1,300 people took part in the race.
The 47th annual race raised more than $39,000 for local cancer support groups, according to a news release. The funds are used to offset medical and personal expenses while people are going through cancer treatment.
"None of this could have happened without our caring community," co-race director Judy Hovelson said in the release.
"Our Fools Five community continues to bring their strong commitment in raising funds for cancer research and our Local Cancer Support Group," said Dan Goss, co-race director.
Bob Bardwell, a Stewartville resident, was this year's guest speaker. Bardwell has completed more than 100 marathons, including five Boston Marathons. He was diagnosed with stage 1 pancreatic cancer a year ago, and is now in remission and considers himself cancer-free.
This year's race starter was the family of Bruce Schott, a Lewiston native, who died last year and was a founding member of the auction.
Next year's auction will be on Friday, April 10, 2026, with the race on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
