Bayer Leverkusen are a more likely destination for Malick Thiaw than Bayern Munich if he were to return to Germany, a journalist has claimed.
Thiaw has been linked with a Milan exit during the past couple of weeks. It was first reported by Bild that the German has long been admired by Leverkusen, a club that he actually played in the youth sector of up until U19 level.
Then, it emerged that Bayern boss Vincent Kompany was present at the Coppa Italia match between Milan and Inter to watch Malick up close. The defender is considering the possibility of returning to play in his home country, to convince Julian Nagelsmann to call him up for the national team.
Now, Christian Falk has given an update on the story during his latest column on cfbayerninsider, speaking about the links that have surfaced in recent weeks.
“Vincent Kompany was at the Coppa Italia game between Inter Milan and AC Milan. We heard that he wanted to watch Inter,” he said.
“Malick Thiaw is on the list of Leverkusen; it’s more concrete that he’ll be a successor to Jonathan Tah, whilst Bayern Munich aren’t quite concrete yet. Leverkusen are in a leading position for the German defender.”
