There’s been one name that’s come up more than any other this week when it comes to Chelsea and transfer – Liam Delap.
The striker is about to go down with Ipswich (who Chelsea can relegate later today), which will activate a vey tempting £30m release clause in his contract.
Given how cheap that is, Chelsea won’t be the only ones interested. In fact, a whole host of teams are likely to try their luck at that price. We’ve just got to hope that the Blues can make a convincing case for the forward, who was spoken about in glowing terms by Enzo Maresca in his pre match press conference this week.
According to an exclusive from Give Me Sport, there could be good news on that front. Despite interest from all over, it sounds like Chelsea are prioritising wrapping up a speedy deal to try and outflank their rivals.
Chelsea lead Man U in race for in demand forward
The piece claims that Chelsea are “quietly positioning themselves to move early” for the 22 year old, realising that a fixed clause gives them a unique chance to seal a deal very quickly. They may even hope to have the England youth international available for the Club World Cup games in June.
Maresca said himself he’s a fan of Delap, and his plan is to partner him with Cole Palmer, who came through the Man City academy at around the same time.
City have a buy back on Delap but don’t seem interested in using it. West Ham and others are interested, but it’s Man U who are our major rivals in this chase. It sounds like, behind the scenes, we’re doing all we can to steal a march on them.
