With the Boston Bruins performing far below expectations this season, they blew up their roster at the 2025 NHL trade deadline. They traded away several former core players, including Massachusetts native Charlie Coyle to the Colorado Avalanche.
At the time of the trade, Coyle was in the middle of a down season with the Bruins. In 64 games, he had 15 goals, 22 points, and a minus-14 rating. This was after he set career highs with 25 goals and 60 points in 82 games this past season for Boston.
Coyle's start with the Avalanche has also been incredibly quiet. In his first 13 games with the Central Division team, he had just two assists. However, in his 14th game for the Avs on April 3 against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Coyle broke the ice big time.
Coyle had a monster performance against the Blue Jackets. He not only scored his first goal with the club but also recorded two assists in the Avalanche's 7-3 victory. Coyle's goal was a beauty, too, as he beat Blue Jackets goaltender Elvis Merzlikins with a perfectly placed snapshot.
When playing at his best, Coyle can provide solid offense, and he certainly showed that to the Avalanche against the Blue Jackets. It will now be interesting to see if the former Bruin can build off this big night from here.
