ESPN names UGA's biggest spring transfer portal needs

ESPN has highlighted (subscription required) edge rusher as a major transfer portal need for the Georgia Bulldogs football team this spring. With a notable lack of returning experience at edge rusher, Georgia has to rely on younger players.

"It wouldn't be surprising if they (Georgia) get involved for some of the top pass rushers available this spring," said Max Olson of ESPN.

The offseason saw the departure of key contributors and a potential replacement in Damon Wilson II, who transferred to Missouri in January. Gabe Harris Jr., the most experienced returning edge defender, has only played 268 career snaps, where he has been unavailable this spring due to an injury.

Stanford transfer edge rusher David Bailey was a name to watch for the Bulldogs, but he ended up taking his talents to Texas Tech. Expect Georgia to search heavily for another edge defender (or defensive end) to bring in more depth and experience.

Georgia lost over 70% of its sack production this offseason and does not return a lot of experience at edge rusher or defensive end.

Georgia appears to have a strong foundation at running back with the emergence of sophomore Nate Frazier, who topped the team in rushing last year with 671 yards and 8 touchdowns (averaging 5 yards per carry). However, don't be surprised if the Bulldogs explore the transfer portal for a more experienced running back to provide depth and complement Frazier's rising talent.

ESPN notes that Georgia could also look for a No. 2 running back via the transfer portal. True freshman Bo Walker has turned some heads in fall camp, but the Bulldogs are dealing with several injuries at the position.

With injuries to both Branson Robinson and Roderick Robinson, Kirby Smart may look to add another body to help out with the workload throughout the running back room. The spring transfer portal window will be open from April 16-25.
