Nebraska tabs Brett Maher as special teams assistant
Nebraska football officially named Brett Maher a special teams assistant. This announcement was made on Friday afternoon.
Maher had a decorated career in Lincoln. He was the starting placekicker and punter for his junior and senior years. He won Big Ten Kicker of the Year and Big Ten Punter of the Year honors in 2011. He made 20-of-27 field goals and 59 point after attempts as a kicker. This helped set a program record for most points scored by a kicker in a season with 119.
Following his career with the Huskers, he enjoyed a successful career in the NFL. He played in the league from 2018-2023 with the Dallas Cowboys, New Orleans Saints, and Los Angeles Rams.
Now, he is continuing to help a Huskers special teams unit that will be directed by Mike Ekeler. The latter was officially announced as the new special teams coach at the beginning of February.
The Huskers special teams unit has undergone a revamp this offseason, and will look to perform at a higher level than in 2024. Having Maher officially in the fold could help with that.
Brett Maher now has an official title: special teams assistant.
