Eagles' Nick Sirianni jokingly calls on Colts' Shane Steichen to protect 'tush push'

Philadelphia Eagles' head coach Nick Sirianni jokingly called on Indianapolis Colts' head coach Shane Steichen and other former assistants to vote on keeping the tush push legal.

Among the topics of conversation this week at the NFL's annual league meetings are potential rule changes. One of the proposals made by the Green Bay Packers earlier in the offseason was to ban the tush push--a short-yardage play that the Eagles have perfected.

The specific proposal, according to ESPN, wants to "prohibit an offensive player from pushing a teammate who was lined up directly behind the snapper and receives the snap, immediately at the snap."

Along with Steichen, who was the Eagles' offensive coordinator under Sirianni from 2021 through 2022, Arizona's head coach Jonathan Gannon and New Orleans' head coach Kellen Moore are former Sirianni assistants as well.

With all three current head coaches having benefitted previously from the tush push, with a grin, Sirianni told the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo that he expects a positive vote for the tush push from his trio of former assistants.

"We’ll see how it goes," Sirianni said. "All I will say about it is (Jonathan) Gannon, (Shane) Steichen and (Kellen) Moore better vote for it. They are in the (head coach) position right now because of that play. So all three, I better have those three votes right there and the Eagles' vote. I at least know we have four.”

In a recent report from ESPN's Kalyn Kahler, the two reasons that the Packers want to prohibit the play are player safety and pace of play.

Kahler adds that the vote will take place on Tuesday and could be "hotly contested."
