Duke Makes Major Cooper Flagg Announcement Ahead of Sweet 16
Duke Blue Devils star Cooper Flagg is having a freshman season for the record books.
The 18-year-old forward leads Duke in points (18.7), rebounds (7.5), assists (4.2), steals (1.4), blocks (1.3), and minutes per game (30.1), and he’s built up quite the trophy case, which includes an ACC Player of the Year award, plus an ACC Rookie of the Year, ACC All-Defensive Team, ACC All-Freshman Team, and a first-team All-ACC selection in addition to being a consensus first-team All-American.
And now, Flagg has one more accolade to celebrate.
Duke announced on Tuesday that Flagg had won the Oscar Robertson Trophy, given annually to the National Player of the Year as voted on by the United States Basketball Writers Association.
"🚨 GOT THE NPOTY ON OUR SQUAD 🚨," the Duke men's basketball X account posted.

Flagg is the first Duke player to win the award since Zion Williamson in in 2019, and he’s just the third Blue Devils players to win it since Shane Battier and Jason Williams won in back-to-back years in 2000 and 2001.
Flagg bounced back from an ankle injury in Duke’s 93-49 win over Mount St. Mary’s in the team’s NCAA Tournament opener on Friday, and he followed it up with an 18-point, nine-rebound performance in an 89-66 win over Baylor in the second round on Sunday, though he did take a blow to the eye that had some fans concerned.
“Yeah, I'm all good,” Flagg said after the game. “My eye feels pretty good right now.”
