Drew McIntyre Makes Stunning WWE Match Admission About CM Punk Rivalry
Drew McIntyre has made quite the admission regarding one match in his feud with CM Punk.
McIntyre and Punk had been bitter rivals for months on WWE TV. During one segment, McIntyre destroyed Punk's bracelet, which symbolized his wife AJ Lee and his dog Larry. The rivalry culminated at the "WWE Bad Blood 2024" PLE, which saw Punk win a Hell in a Cell match.
During an interview with "Untapped," McIntyre admitted that he thought he was bleeding out after one spot during the match went awry.
"I got hit in the head during the match, and I got 16 staples across the top of my head," McIntyre said. "That was very real. I got hit by a toolbox, and right away I saw the blood spurt across the ring within the first seven, eight minutes of the match. We had been building this story for a year. This was the culmination of this giant story, and I was like, 'Oh no, I'm bleeding out, and the lights are getting very bright right now,' but that's one of those moments you just got to suck it up. Considering the story we told, the blood feud we were having, it was actually perfect. and we have our doctors on site to ensure that I'm ok."
The origins of McIntyre's feud with Punk can be traced back to the 2024 men's Royal Rumble match. McIntyre delivered a Future Shock DDT to Punk, who tore his triceps when he landed on the mat. The rumored plan was for Punk to face Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at "WrestleMania 40," but Punk was required to undergo surgery, and he wasn't medically cleared to compete.
That didn't stop Punk from attending the show. After McIntyre defeated Rollins to capture the world title, Punk attacked him. This allowed Damian Priest to successfully cash in his Money in the Bank contract on "The Scottish Warrior."
After McIntyre defeated Punk at "WWE SummerSlam 2024," the two ended their rivalry in the aforementioned Hell in a Cell match at "Bad Blood."
