Dolphins' top 2025 draft prospects: Texas CB Jahdae Barron

The Miami Dolphins need to be aggressive at cornerback in the 2025 NFL draft after not doing much in the first wave of free agency. One option is the ultra-versatile Jahdae Barron out of Texas.

Barron excelled in the slot, showed he could play on the boundary, and even took some snaps at safety. The First-Team All-American won the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s best cornerback in 2024 after tallying five interceptions, nine pass break-ups, and not allowing a single touchdown. He also had 24 career tackles for loss as well as a pair of sacks.

At the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, Barron put on a show with a 4.39 40-yard dash that should make up for his lack of size.

A very smart and instinctual player with outstanding route recognition, Barron could be a phenomenal chess piece for Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver. He can be a force in the box with his tackling and has the ball skills to create turnovers anywhere on the field.

Fit for Miami

Barron’s play in the slot is elite, so he could make for an interesting addition to provide flexibility in the secondary. Ultimately, though, Jalen Ramsey could use a quality bookend to play opposite of him.

The Dolphins released Kendall Fuller creating the opening across from Ramsey. For now, the battle in camp would be between 2024 undrafted signee Storm Duck and 2023 second-round pick Cam Smith, with Kader Kohou back to man the slot again.

Miami is undeniably in the market for a second corner to complement Ramsey and Chris Grier places a lot of value on cornerbacks. It’s hard to imagine a draft for the Dolphins this April where the position isn't addressed in the first few rounds.

Bottom line

Miami needs improvement in the secondary, and they could land one of the top three players at the position in Barron or Michigan’s Will Johnson at No. 13 overall. The third, Colorado’s Travis Hunter, will likely be long gone by the time the Dolphins are on the clock.

In the unlikely scenario that Miami gets to choose between Johnson and Barron, the difference in the players is that Johnson is a ready-made boundary corner who could immediately plug-and-play across from Ramsey. But Barron’s skill set and versatility make him hard to dismiss.
