Dolphins G has to be 'best version of himself' to start again in 2025, says Mike McDaniel

Liam Eichenberg struggled for much of the 2025 season and was credited with allowing a team-high 29 quarterback pressures by PFF. Yet when his contract expired this offseason, the Miami Dolphins brought back Eichenberg on a one-year deal.

For now, Eichenberg is penciled in as a starter with little competition outside of the recently acquired Larry Borom to supplant him in the starting lineup. But Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said another year as a starter is no given for the veteran guard.

"Liam has taken some bullets and some losses," McDaniel said earlier this week, via Joe Schad of the Palm Beach Post. "But great teammate, added value, and we're happy to have him on the Dolphins. And for him to be a starter, he's gonna have to be his best version of himself that he's ever been."

Eichenberg started 14 games at right guard before splitting time with Isaiah Wynn in the last three weeks of the year. While the 53.1 grade he received from PFF was the highest of his career, it still made him a weak link in the Dolphins' starting lineup.

Earlier this offseason, Miami allowed Wynn and Robert Jones to reach free agency. The team signed former Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers guard James Daniels who will presumably fill one of the guard spots, leaving Eichenberg and Borom as the top options on the other side.
