Cowboys Headlines: Ex-Commanders OL brought in for workout; OTA, minicamp dates announced

The Cowboys really are turning over every stone in searching for low-risk pieces to add to the 2025 roster. The latest possibility? A former draft pick of the rival Commanders who, at 25, is coming out of retirement to give it another shot in the pros. We'll explain where the onetime LSU Tiger might fit in Dallas. We'll also look at which current Cowboy one respected analyst calls his top pick in the league for building an entire team around.

Elsewhere, we'll go mocking, both with ESPN's "perfect draft" haul for Dallas and a productive three-rounder that adds a pick early. We'll look back at Jerry Jones's five best draft picks ever, we'll give you a few draft-day "reaches" that might be sneaky-smart selections, and we'll examine which means more in the war room: production or potential. We're looking ahead to the offseason schedule now that dates have been revealed for OTAs and minicamps, we'll tally up what the Cowboys will spend on their incoming rookie class, we'll explore the ripple effects of what an 18-game schedule might really look like, and we'll provide the latest example of how the Cowboys are still living rent-free in the heads of Philadelphians. Wait until you hear what one local resident actually said with a straight face at a council meeting about who is apparently to blame for his town's problems.

The team reportedly brought in Saahdiq Charles, a fourth-round pick by Washington who signed with Tennessee last year but then retired shortly after training camp began. College fans may remember that Charles was suspended by LSU back in 2019 for the non-conference part of the team's schedule for violating team rules. The 25-year-old right guard came out of retirement last month; the Cowboys gave him a look as a possible depth piece in the wake of Zack Martin's retirement.

Bucky Brooks ranks Parsons the top defender in the league to use as a roster foundation right now, calling him "the ultimate front-line hybrid force" and calling out his "high-revving motor and an elite competitive spirit." All the Cowboys have to do now is lock him up with a landscape-altering contract, and they'll be committing to build around a 25-year-old four-time Pro Bowler who is just now entering his prime.

The outlet's "perfect draft" may have been turned in before the Joe Milton trade, because it has the Cowboys taking Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard in the seventh round. That's unlikely now, but the rest of this hypothetical haul looks good: Texas WR Matthew Golden, Ohio State DT Tyleik Williams, Tennessee RB Dylan Sampson, and Notre Dame TE Mitchell Evans, for starters.
