The Colorado Avalanche have signed forward Taylor Makar to a one-year entry-level deal, the team announced Monday.
Makar, a 2021 seventh round pick of the Avalanche, will join the Colorado Eagles on an amateur try-out for the remainder of the season.
A product of Calgary, Alta., Makar just finished his first season at the University of Maine and fourth in the NCAA, scoring 18 goals and adding 12 assists for 30 points in 38 games. Across 123 career games with the Black Bears and UMass, Makar had 33 goals and 19 assists for 52 points.
Before heading to the NCAA, Makar spent parts of four seasons playing in the AJHL with the Brooks Bandits.
Set to join his brother Cale in the Avalanche organization, Makar could be a solid addition to the Eagles for the remainder of the year. He took great strides in his game this season and could have the opportunity to make a push for NHL time next year.
