Sally Green, a senior from Greenville, won a women’s national powerlifting title while competing for Midland University of Nebraska.
Green was first in the 114-pound weight class at the Collegiate Nationals at Oklahoma City with her total of 887.4 pounds. She squatted 341.7 pounds, benched 181.9 and hoisted 363.8 in the deadlift to win by 71.7 pounds over Mia Smith from Blue Mountain Christian of Mississippi. She also beat lifters from McKendree of Illinois, the University of Texas, Texas-Rio Grande Valley and Sam Houston State.
Midland won the women’s team title with 75 points. Northeastern University was second (69), followed by Blue Mountain (60), Texas (53), Texas A&M (50) and Sam Houston State (41).

Kaydee Bennett, a junior from Caddo Mills, batted 3-for-3 and drove in a run during the Texas Longhorns 8-0 softball victory over Missouri.
Bennett also drove in a run during the Longhorns’ 10-1 win over Texas State.
Bennett is batting .330 for the season with 23 runs and 11 runs batted in. Her on-base percentage is .430.
The No. 1 nationally-ranked Longhorns went into a big series this weekend at home in Austin against nationally-ranked Tennessee with a 38-3 season record.

Jett Fifield, a freshman left-hander from Greenville, has pitched in 13 baseball games this season for Paris Junior College.
Fifeld has a 3-2 season record with a team-best 2.36 earned run average. He’s allowed 21 hits and 13 walks in 26 2/3 innings with 23 strikeouts.
Paris, ranked No. 17 in the national junior college rankings, is to play Bossier Parish of Louisiana in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Saturday in Paris.

Maddie Nichol, a freshman from Lone Oak, went 2-0 in women’s singles and doubles for LeTourneau University in a dual tennis match against the University of Dallas.
Nichol won 6-0, 6-0 in singles over Monica Kennedy and teamed with Emma Boulanger to beat Kennedy and Colette Asan 6-0 in doubles.
