City wakes up to historic Newcastle win
Newcastle fans are waking up after a night of celebrating their first domestic cup in 70 years.
Huge crowds gathered around St James' Park last night after the Magpies beat Liverpool 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final.
Many jubilant fans stayed out all night in the city, with one telling BBC Radio Newcastle that they felt "very good".
Another fan, who had also stayed out all night, said they felt "spectacular" and were "lost for words".
One fan, travelling back to the city on an early train from London, said it had been "without a shadow of a doubt" the best weekend of their life.
Another supporter said it was "absolutely unbelievable" and they felt like they were still "waiting to wake up".
Road sweepers were out in force in the city centre clearing up last night's debris from the celebrations.
Many schools across the region allowed children to attend classes wearing black and white or their Newcastle kits.
Prudhoe West Academy in Northumberland wrote on social media: "We will do our very best as a school to help our children capture this moment in North East history."
Speaking from Wembley last night, BBC Look North reporter Nisha Joshi said there were "hugs, singing and more tears" outside the stadium.
"One name came up repeatedly after the game - Dan Burn from Blyth," she said.
"For one of their own to score at Wembley, in the week he earned his first England call-up, made an unforgettable day even more special."
Burn scored the first goal in the match yesterday, his first since January last year.
