Cardinals win second game to earn split with DePauw
PLATTSBURGH — The Plattsburgh State baseball team started out the 2025 season in good form offensively with a doubleheader sweep of Penn State-Berks.
But on Plattsburgh’s trip to Florida, the warm weather hasn’t helped the Cardinals’ bats get warm.
The Cardinals (4-3), who dropped a tough 2-1 and 1-0 doubleheader to Farmingdale State the day before, did just enough offensively in the second game on Monday to split a twinbill with DePauw University, falling 9-0 in the opener before recording a 3-1 win in the nightcap.
“The hitters are just getting away from their approach,” Plattsburgh head coach Sam Quinn-Loeb said. “They are trying too hard at the plate, trying to do too much and getting beat by the fastball.
“This is definitely not something I envisioned at the start of the season.”
The Cardinals took on undefeated Bowdoin College (9-0) in a 2:30 p.m. start to a doubleheader on Tuesday. Bowdoin’s last outing was a 16-5, 7-inning victory over St. Lawrence University.
Plattsburgh closes out its trip with a 4:15 p.m. game against Knox College today before coming back north to begin its SUNYAC season at Oneonta on Friday and Saturday in a three-game set.
With their conference starters slated to pitch the three games on the weekend, the Cardinals will likely piece together their next three contests.

Three Tigers combined on a five-hit shutout against the Cardinals.
DePauw took control of the game early with five runs in the top of the second for a 6-0 lead after two.
It marked the Plattsburgh’s first game on the trip decided by more than two runs.
Kyle Cremin, Michael Piccirillo, Josh Foglia, Bostyn Duquette and Adam Wein had the Cardinals’ hits — all singles.

The Cardinals broke their three-game losing streak as starter Tyler Kohn and relievers Liam Suozzo and Nick Goldberg limited the Tigers (6-7) to just one run despite DePauw having 14 baserunners on nine hits, four walks and a hit batsman.
Kohn, in 4.1 innings, picked up the win as he allowed four hits, one run, walked three and struck out three. Goldberg pitched the seventh inning for his second save on the trip.
Alex Kornblau had two of Plattsburgh’s five hits while scoring a run and driving in two.
The Cardinals grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third when Kornblau’s single drove in Jackson Pam and Cremin later hit a sacrifice fly to plate Kornblau.
Plattsburgh then made it 3-0 in the fifth when Kornblau’s single drove in Duquette.
