Can't Wait For Saturday Illinois defensive lineman Edwards has the right attitude
Mar. 14—***
Why do I like Pro Day so much? Because players realize their time at Illinois is running out and often reflect on their journey.
A pack of reporters saw touching moments from the eight players at Thursday's Illinois Pro Day. There were thank yous and genuine appreciation expressed.
The players shook everyone's hand, unsure if we would all talk again. Hopefully, it happens after they get drafted or signed by a team.
Most of them will come back to Illinois for visits, but once the post-college time starts, it is never quite the same.
One of the best reactions Thursday to his life situation came from defensive lineman TeRah Edwards.
The Northwestern transfer is trying to return to the team in 2025 with a petition to the NCAA that I hope works. Sounds like he has a good case and his NFL stock will rise if he is able to play another college season.
Edwards said he has been stressed while awaiting word about his return. But while talking about it, he offered some wise introspection.
"Yeah, I'm stressing," he said. "But I'm stressing about playing college ball in the Big Ten."
One of his teammates chimed in with "TeRah, you're the man. We miss you."
Edwards continued with his deep thoughts.
"For me, why be mad? he said. "It's good problems. If it's meant, it's going to happen. Most people dream of playing college ball and most people dream of playing in the NFL. For me, I don't have anything to be sad about. Have fun. Be yourself. Be me."
The Loren Tate Media Award goes to the Illinois players who is the most helpful to reporters. If Edwards gets his extra year, he is the No. 1 candidate on my preseason list.
