Cam Ward works with South Florida high school quarterbacks ahead of NFL Draft
As he prepares to potentially hear his name called first in this year's NFL Draft, former Washington State and Miami quarterback Cam Ward took some time out to give back to the future of the position.
Ward was seen working alongside quarterbacks from Miami-Dade and Broward High School at La Salle High School the other night.
While originally from Texas, Ward has become a staple in the South Florida landscape during his year-long tenure in Coral Gables. He led the Hurricanes to a 10-3 record and was a Heisman finalist, throwing for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns.
Ward let the quarterbacks he was working with know how much he thought about the state's skill level compared to his home state.
"Florida football is not even close to Texas bro," Ward can be heard saying. "It's actually a wide-gap. Texas has the first two quarterbacks coming off of the board in this year's draft.
Texas is one, y'all (Florida) are for sure two. I do think Florida has the best receivers."
Unranked coming out of high school, Ward played in a wing-t offense at Columbia High School and only had one college offer. That one offer was to Incarnate Word, where he spent two seasons and threw for 6,908 yards and 71 touchdowns.
Following the 2021 season, he transferred to Washington State. He completed 65% of his passes for 6.966 yards and 48 touchdowns with the Cougars.
Ward then entered the transfer portal after the 2023 season and was the top recruit in that cycle before committing to Miami.
