Mainz will be without one their star striker when they face Hoffenheim away from home on Saturday.
The Zero-Fivers announced on Saturday that Jonathan Burkardt will miss the game with an infection.
Mainz coach Bo Henriksen listed Burkardt as a doubt during a press conference on Friday.
“We’ve been managing his workload because he was a bit under the weather. We need to control his load and see how much he can train and play," said Henriksen.
Centre-back Maxim Leitsch is not in the squad either due to muscular problems in his hip area.
Mainz also have to manage without midfield talisman Nadiem Amiri (suspension) and Stefan Bell (thigh).
