Apr. 1—MITCHELL — Double-double standouts and senior experience lead the Class B boys basketball all-state selections for 2025, as selected by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association.

The first team includes Class B player of the year Bryon Laue, of Castlewood, Viborg-Hurley senior Nicholas Hanson, Dell Rapids St. Mary seniors Trevon Beckman and Maverick LeBrun, De Smet junior Grant Wilkinson and Sully Buttes junior Wesley Wittler.

Laue, a 6-foot-9 senior center, was at the heart of Castlewood's championship run, which was the Warriors' first state title since 2001. Laue posted 16.6 points and 12.5 rebounds per game, plus blocked a Class B-best 62 shots during the season. A University of Sioux Falls basketball commit, Laue landed on the all-state first team for a second year in a row after shooting 61% from the field and 36% from 3-point territory.

Hanson is also repeating on the Class B all-state first team after a season in which he averaged 20.1 points and 8.3 rebounds per game for the state runner-up Cougars. He shot a class-best 67.2% from the field during the season and was the Spirit of Su winner at the Class B state tournament, as well.

The Cardinals were powered to a third-place finish in Class B thanks to the elite scoring of Beckman and LeBrun, both seniors. Beckman recorded 25.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game, plus racking up 66 steals for the season, shooting 50% from the field and 41% from 3-point range.

Beckman, who is committed to play college basketball at Doane University in Nebraska, finished the season breaking the DRSM single-season scoring record with 655 points, breaking the mark previously held by his current coach Colby Fitzgerald, and setting a record for 3-pointers made in a season by a Cardinal with 88.

LeBrun, a 6-foot-6 senior, posted a double-double on average with 20.4 points and 11.4 rebounds per game, while shooting 62% from the field. A future defensive lineman for South Dakota State University football, LeBrun scored a career-high 43 points in January.

Wilkinson, who is also a coveted college football recruit, broke the De Smet single-game scoring record on Feb. 6 with 46 points in a win over Elkton-Lake Benton, and he set the school record for rebounds in a single season for the Bulldogs with 368, breaking a record from 1962 previously held by Ken Huisenga.

Wittler, a 6-foot-1 junior guard, powered the Chargers to the SoDak 16 by scoring a Class B-best 26.2 points per game with 13.2 rebounds per game, plus 82 steals and hit 132 3-pointers for the season. Wittler, who was a state champion quarterback for the Chargers in the fall, was an all-state honorable mention pick in 2024.
