Bayern Munich accelerate talks to sign €70m-rated Barcelona target – report

Barcelona’s pursuit of Nico Williams has taken an unexpected turn, as Bayern Munich have now surged ahead in the race to sign the highly-rated Athletic Club winger.

According to reports from Fichajes, the German team has already begun working behind the scenes to finalise a move for the 22-year-old, potentially dealing a major blow to Barcelona’s transfer plans.

Although the transfer window is still far away, Bayern are not wasting any time in their efforts to secure the signing well in advance.

The Bundesliga champions are reportedly prepared to trigger the €58 million release clause in Nico’s contract, ensuring they get the deal over the line before any other club can make a serious push.

By moving swiftly, Bayern aim to have him ready to join their squad for the 2025-26 season, strengthening their attacking options with one of La Liga’s brightest young prospects.

For months, Barcelona had been closely monitoring Nico, considering him an ideal addition to their squad. With exceptional pace, dribbling ability, and a keen eye for creating goal-scoring opportunities, he has been a standout player in La Liga.

However, Bayern’s aggressive approach now puts them in pole position to secure his signature.

The Bavarian side is looking to finalise the transfer as soon as possible to avoid a bidding war, especially with Barcelona also keen on the player. Bayern want to prevent any last-minute competition by wrapping up the deal early.

Problem for Barcelona

While Barcelona have not entirely given up on the possibility of signing Nico, they now face an uphill battle.

Unless they can convince the player to wait or offer a compelling alternative, Bayern appear to have the upper hand in securing the highly sought-after winger.

The coming months will be crucial in determining whether Nico ends up at the Allianz Arena or if Barcelona can find a way to turn the situation in their favour.
