Shortly after scoring an important brace in the win over Girona, Robert Lewandowski was quick to address his immediate goal: Score 100 goals for Barcelona.
The brace against Girona saw Lewandowski beat Real Madrid legend Ferenc Puskas’ long-held record of most goals scored in La Liga after turning 36.
It also extended Lewandowski’s scoring tally with Barcelona to 97 goals, which is quite impressive given the fact that it hasn’t been long since the forward joined the club.
Lewandowski nearing the magic figure
With 97 goals on the board, Lewandowski is now only a hat-trick away from reaching the magic three-figure mark for Barcelona.
This can be achieved in Barcelona’s upcoming game against Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey semifinal tonight.
However, securing a hat-trick against Los Colchoneros could be tricky considering the fact that they are one of the few teams that have done well against Hansi Flick’s men this season.
A more realistic timeframe for Lewandowski to reach 100 goals with Barcelona could be this weekend, when Barcelona take on Real Betis in La Liga.
However, nothing can be ruled out as Lewandowski has already bagged 15 goals since the turn of the year, nine of which have come in La Liga.
Lewandowski’s seasonal tally comes at 38 goals, which has been achieved in just 42 competitive matches so far.
With a chunk of the season still remaining, Lewandowski can not only breach the 100-goal mark but is also staring at the possibility of reaching the 50-goal mark for the season.
However, the veteran forward won’t be too worked up with these figures and his sole focus will be to help Barcelona secure a berth in the Copa del Rey final tonight.
