Barcelona ready to part ways with 28-year-old star to make room for new signing
According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona are not planning to extend Andreas Christensen’s contract, which ends in 2026, and the Danish defender could be on his way out in the summer.
With an already crowded central defence, the club is considering a sale, especially with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah emerging as a possible addition to the squad.
Christensen has struggled for game time this season, featuring for only 26 minutes so far. Injuries have severely disrupted his campaign, preventing him from maintaining a regular presence in the team.
However, he is expected to return at the beginning of April, which could allow him to play a key role in the final stretch of the season.
No place for Christensen
Despite his undeniable quality, his injury history has made him a less reliable option for the club.
Meanwhile, Barcelona already have strong competition in central defence, with Ronald Araujo, Pau Cubarsi, and Inigo Martinez all fighting for places.
Given these circumstances, offloading Christensen appears to be the most practical decision, both in sporting and financial terms.
Selling the Danish defender would not only clear space in the squad but also generate a transfer fee that could be reinvested in other areas.
Barcelona are looking for ways to improve their squad balance, and parting ways with injury-prone players is one way to achieve that.
Likely to play an important role this season
For the remainder of the season, Christensen could still make an impact if he manages to regain full fitness. If his recovery progresses as expected, he might be available for selection when Barcelona host Girona.
However, a more cautious estimate suggests that he will be fully match-fit only by early April, possibly in time for the encounter against Real Betis.
With Barcelona aiming to make squad adjustments in the summer, Christensen’s future remains uncertain.
His performances in the final months of the season could determine whether he stays or if the club decides to move on and secure a transfer that benefits both parties.
