Barcelona finalise three-man shortlist to strengthen right-back position – report

It is no secret that Barcelona are on the lookout for a new right-back, and in that regard, the sporting department is working with a clear goal in mind, which is to sign a dependable full-back to give Jules Kounde some breathing space.

The Frenchman has been a commendable presence in Barcelona’s defence, but Deco is now studying a list of potential targets who could step into the right-back role.

With financial limitations still in play, the club understand that they will have to be very smart about how they approach potential targets, and according to Fichajes, these are the names that the Blaugrana have shortlisted..

Vanderson leads the list

One of the main players Barcelona have been watching closely is AS Monaco’s Vanderson. The Brazil defender has impressed Barcelona with his strength and ability to contribute in attack.

Unfortunately, signing him won’t be too easy as the Ligue 1 side will demand at least €30 million, and they are not open to lowering the price.

In that regard, Barcelona might have to explore creative solutions, such as including a player swap or add-ons to bring the fee down.

Cheaper alternatives being considered

Alongside Vanderson, Deco is also monitoring Yan Couto, a player who currently plays for Borussia Dortmund.

However, the 22-year-old has not even clocked 1000 minutes this season and with that in mind, he could be open to moving elsewhere, and Barcelona could take advantage of the situation.

With a market value of just €20 million (as per Transfermarkt), he is not expected to cost much.

Lastly, another name being considered is Andrei Ratiu from Rayo Vallecano.

The Romanian defender has been one of the most consistent performers in La Liga this season, and given his experience of playing in La Liga, Barcelona feel he could prove to be a budget-friendly solution.

His experience and low cost make him an appealing backup plan if other moves fail to materialise.
