Barcelona have suffered a massive setback, as left-back Alejandro Balde picked up a hamstring injury in the win against Leganes last night.
The Spanish full-back sustained the injury in the first half before being replaced by Gerard Martin.
Balde is set to undergo medical examinations on Sunday to determine the full extent of his injury; however, initial reports suggest that he could be set for a brief spell on the sidelines.
Diario AS claims that the young left-back could be ruled out for up to three weeks, meaning he is at risk of missing the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid and the semi-final of the Champions League later this month.
Balde looks certain to miss the UCL quarter-final second leg against Borussia Dortmund next week. Barca beat the Germans 4-0 in the first leg.
Hansi Flick also stated after the win that Balde’s injury looks worrying.
Ronald Araujo was also replaced with an apparent injury concern, however, the German manager has shrugged off the fears.
Balde would be a huge miss for the Catalans at the crucial juncture of the season as their quest for the treble is at stake.
The 21-year-old has been enjoying his best run under Flick this season, establishing himself as one of the best left-backs in Europe.
He has grown into an explosive full-back with his raw pace and ball-carrying skills while being robust in the defence.
Martin has shown his quality as Balde’s deputy on several occasions, but the biggest challenge of his career lies ahead.
Jorge Saenz’s own goal helped Barca narrowly beat Leganes 1-0 as well as extend their lead to seven points at the top of La Liga, ahead of Real Madrid.
The Blaugrana will travel to Dortmund on Tuesday before they face Celta Vigo in a league fixture.
