Area high school baseball roundup for April 6: Gregory County clips Hot Springs

Apr. 7—HOT SPRINGS, S.D. — Gregory County scored five runs in the top of the seventh innings, rallying from a 7-3 deficit to swipe an 8-7 road high school baseball win at Hot Springs on Sunday.

Through five innings, Gregory County trailed 5-1 before scoring seven runs over the final two frames. The winning run came in to score on a hit-by-pitch, as Jayder Schonebaum was hit and Eli Ekroth touched home.

Cash Hemming and Aiden Frasch each notched two hits and one run batted in, while Colt Keiser had one hit and two RBIs. Lincoln Juracek went four innings in a start on the mound, striking out six batters while yielding two hits, four walks and one run. Keiser closed out the game with a perfect seventh inning, striking out all three batters.

For Hot Springs, Jaydon Koffler and Jax Tschacher each had two hits. Koffler struck out nine batters in 5 2/3 innings.

Gregory County also defeated Lead-Deadwood 12-2 in five innings on Saturday. Schonebaum and Keiser each had three hits, combining to drive in three runs and score five runs. Hudson Fuhrer tossed 2 2/3 perfect innings, striking out seven of the eight batters he faced.

SCOTLAND, S.D. — Garret Lehr stole home in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Scotland/Menno a walk-off win over Parker on Sunday.

Parker had tied the contest at 3-all in the sixth inning after falling behind 3-1 in the fifth. In the seventh inning, Lehr led off with a single, advanced to second base on a single by Jarret Andretta and then made his way to third on a wild pitch before scoring the game-winning run.

Lehr finished with three hits and one RBI on the day, while Andretta had two hits and one run. Trent Guthmiller struck out nine batters over five innings of work.

Devin Kuchta had two hits and one RBI for Parker. Cale Sheaffer had four strikeouts in a seven-out start on the mound.

VOLGA, S.D. — A late flurry of offense lifted Howard past Sioux Valley in extra innings on Sunday.

Trailing 5-2 through four innings, the Tigers put up eight straight runs to take a 10-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh innings. There, Sioux Valley rallied to force extra innings, but Howard had the final say with five more runs of its own in the eighth inning to take the victory.

Nolan Mentele was 3-for-3 at the plate and also drew three walks, driving in two runs and scoring twice himself. Korbin Shumaker also had three hits with two RBIs, and Owen Feldhaus powered the effort with two hits and six RBIs. Mentele and Luke Koepsell combined to pitch all eight innings, with Koepsell registering seven strikeouts in five innings.

Kameron Hauck notched four hits and three RBIs to lead Sioux Valley, while Braden Danzeisen, Levi Loban and Ethan Axtell all added multiple hits. Andrew Gunderson had six strikeouts in five innings pitched.

PARKSTON, S.D. — Parkston jumped in front early and limited Elk Point-Jefferson to one hit in a home win on Sunday.

The Trojans scored four runs in the first inning and added another in the second to take a 5-0 lead before EPJ offered its lone reply.

Carter Sommer and Mason Jervik each collected two hits, with Jervik driving in a pair of runs. Kolter Kramer reached base safely twice via one hit and one walk and plated one run. Wyatt Anderson was the winning pitcher, hurling four no-hit innings with seven strikeouts.

Luke Swatek had the lone hit for EPJ.

WINNER, S.D. — A quick start paced Winner/Colome to a run-rule win over Lead-Deadwood on Sunday.

The Royals scored six runs in the first inning and three more in the second to jump ahead and never looked back.

Aiden Schroeder, Ryder Halligan, and Carter Foster recorded two hits apiece, while Zac Olson, Adryan Brandis and Foster had two RBIs each. Schroeder earned the pitching win, tossing all five innings with five strikeouts ...
