'Amazing athletes': B-P cheerleaders take home first place in Orlando. What coach said
TAUNTON — The Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School cheerleading team took home first place at the 2025 AmeriCheer International Championship in Orlando, Florida.
The event, held March 15-16, marked the first time the team participated in the competition, according to a community announcement. The team qualified for the Game Day category through a winning virtual bid in December.
The championship performance, which took place at the Toon Lagoon Amphitheater at Universal Orlando Resort, concluded a successful season for the Craftsmen cheerleaders. They also claimed titles as Mayflower Athletic Conference League Champions and State Vocational Champions.
The AmeriCheer International Championship featured around 30 teams from high schools, colleges and cheerleading organizations across the U.S., Canada and Jamaica.
The winning B-P team and coaches
The team was led by seniors Lilyana Arnold, Brooke Logan, Miranda MacMullen and Alicia Thorne, who have been part of the squad for their entire four years at Bristol-Plymouth.
The rest of the championship roster includes captain Riley Deveney, Ava Bettencourt, Annabelle Boucher, Avery Brown, Emily Carter, Olivia Couto, Skyler Dame, Julianna Fyfe, Evelyne Gagne, Cheyenne Granville, Jayla Holland, Lilyana Laudicina, Ashlyn Reis, Jasmine Rubeski, Gianna Tacovelli and Brianna Zamora.
In addition to Head Coach Jessica Holst, Assistant Coach Jenna Barber and Athletic Director Mark Lebeda joined the team on the trip.
Coach congratulates team
Holst congratulated her cheerleaders for their championship efforts and gave special thanks to the senior captains for their dedication throughout all four years of high school. She noted that the four seniors showed discipline and determination by continuing with cheerleading despite the academic and work obligations that come with their co-op jobs as part of their technical vocations.
"They've been dedicated to the program throughout their entire high school career. At a technical school, that's hard to do," Holst said. "Our cheerleaders have also held to high academic standards, maintaining their standing on the honor roll and their roles as ambassadors in the National Honor Society. They do community service and volunteer work. On top of being elite cheerleaders, they are all smart and good humans."
Athletic Director Lebeda, Principal Karen Guenette and Superintendent-Director Alexandre Magalhaes each congratulated the cheerleading team on an extraordinary season of accomplishments and on being crowned international champions.
"This championship win is the product of a lot of hard work by our cheerleaders, along with their coaching staff," Lebeda said. "Thank you to all the families, faculty and community members who have helped the Bristol-Plymouth cheerleading team achieve these incredible accomplishments."
"I would like to congratulate the Bristol-Plymouth cheerleading team on an extraordinary season,” Guenette said. “Their dedication to cheerleading and their academic achievements are phenomenal. We couldn't be more proud."
“We are proud of these amazing athletes and their dedicated coaching staff,” Magalhaes said. “Winning first place in an international competition is an incredible honor, but it also comes with a lot of effort and commitment. Congratulations once again to our Bristol-Plymouth cheerleaders.”
In addition to cheerleading competitions, the B-P cheerleading squad participated in the annual Taunton Christmas Parade, and cheered on the school basketball and football teams.
