All the coaches Juventus sacked mid-season before Motta
Unlike many Italian clubs, sacking a coach mid-season is a relatively rare situation for Juventus, so look back over those who like Thiago Motta didn’t see out the campaign.
Multiple reports confirm that Motta will be sacked within the next 24 hours to make way for Igor Tudor as interim coach until June 30.
You can check the latest developments on the Liveblog.
There should also be an option to extend if they secure qualification for the Champions League, otherwise the club will be seeking another boss while participating in the Club World Cup.
Juventus tried to avoid sacking coaches early
The first coach to be dismissed early at Juventus was Sandro Puppo, given the axe with five games left to play in April 1956, replaced by Teobaldo Depetrini.
When Juventus sacked Ljubisa Brocic in November 1958, they again called on Depetrini to see out the campaign.
A very unusual situation emerged in 1961-62, when Julius Korostelev was shifted from coach to technical director after just two games, bringing back Carlo Parola.
Paulo Amaral was fired in October 1962, replaced by first Eraldo Monzeglio, then Ercole Rabitti, while Rabitti was recalled once more to take over from Luis Carniglia just six games into the 1969-70 campaign.
After that, it was a very long period of stability at Juventus, until Marcello Lippi resigned in February 1999, replaced by Carlo Ancelotti.
Another decade passed, when Claudio Ranieri was fired with two rounds left in 2009, for caretaker Ciro Ferrara.
Just 21 rounds into the next season, Ferrara suffered the same fate, replaced by Alberto Zaccheroni.
The most recent dismissal was a tense and ugly situation, when Max Allegri was canned just hours after winning the Coppa Italia.
A statement announced his behaviour was “not compatible with the values of the club” following his furious reaction to refereeing decisions, taking off his jacket, tie and partly his shirt, but above all screaming at director Cristiano Giuntoli.
Paulo Montero saw out the season, with Thiago Motta already lined up to take over in the summer.
