Aaron Rodgers has Steelers right where he wants them
Aaron Rodgers has the Pittsburgh Steelers right where he wants them as Aaron Rodgers Watch heads into its fifth day. He's had a superiority complex since he entered the NFL. He knows the Steelers are desperate, with little to no options after muffing up any opportunity general manager Omar Khan may have had to re-sign Justin Fields.
Rodgers has made the Green Bay Packers wait, the New York Jets wait, and now it's the Steelers' turn.
Rumor has it the Minnesota Vikings are sniffing around and the New York Giants have a two-year, $90 million offer on the table. While there are no specifics on what the Steelers have offered, it's safe to assume it's close to New York's and the biggest difference is guaranteed money -- something Pittsburgh's front office is notoriously stingy with.
What fans and media have been wondering since Pittsburgh and Rodgers have been linked: is he worth it? In his first season with the Jets following a torn Achilles, Rodgers completed 63.0% of his passes for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He ranked 21st between Las Vegas Raiders' Aidan O'Connell and L.A. Rams' Matthew Stafford in Pro Football Sports Network's QB+ metric.
While Rodgers might have some juice left in the tank to get the Steelers into the playoffs -- and perhaps deeper than they've gone since Ben Roethlisberger -- that doesn't take into account the distraction his mere presence will cause and what that could do to the locker room.
Rodgers’ future is and will continue to be the biggest storyline in the NFL until he makes up his mind -- whenever that may be.
