It’s almost as if Jamie O’Brien gets bored with traditional surfing. Even when it’s pumping, late-season, nearly maxing-out Pipeline. That, or he has ADHD, and bounces from activity-to-activity, always on the go, always switching things up. Or, perhaps more likely, since he’s a big fish in the vlogosphere, he’s got to keep things interesting, diversified, to cater to his audience.
Whatever the case, JOB is always up to something fun – whether it is dominating the wave he grew up surfing, and made an entire career at, or all the extracurricular surf-adjacent antics.
This time, it’s the latter. A SUPsquatch + 15-foot Sunset Beach = a good time, with a dash of danger.
“So, we’ve got a 16-foot board down here at the beach,” JOB sets the scene. “It is an inflatable. We’re gonna go out to one of the most dangerous waves in the world, Sunset Beach. It is firing – eight-to-10 feet. We got the boys. It’s going to be an epic time. We’re psyched up.”
All in all, the session appeared to be pretty successful. And while the SUPsquatch is somewhat of a joke when it comes to wave-riding, the borderline laughably alternative craft fairs pretty well. A few minor hiccups, but no major yard sales, splaying the gang across the impact zone at Sunset.

“Couple bombs, waves were pumping, 12-foot, 15-foot sets,” JOB summed it up. “Luckily, we didn’t get washed out, because that would’ve been sketchy. It was a successful mission.”
Meanwhile, down the beach at Pipeline, Koa Rothman had less of a successful session during this late-season run of swell. He got pretty much barred while attempting to surf 20-foot Pipe, saying, “it’s too gnarly.” Here’s something not typically heard – the SUPsquatch was the right call.
