5 Broncos players in line for contract extensions
After signing five outside free agents and re-signing five in-house free agents, the Denver Broncos seem to be done with the bulk of their free agency moves.
Up next on the offseason calendar is the 2025 NFL draft (April 24-26), followed by organized team activities and the NFL schedule release in May. After that, there's minicamp in June, training camp in July, preseason and roster cuts in August and then Week 1 in September.
Sometime soon (if it hasn't already started), the Broncos will begin negotiating contract extensions with key players scheduled to become free agents in 2026.
Last year, Denver gave extensions to Quinn Meinerz (July), Pat Surtain (September), Jonathon Cooper (November) and Garett Bolles (December). Who's next? Here's a quick look at five candidates.
1. DL Zach Allen
Allen (27) is coming off the best season of his career with 40 quarterback hits and 8.5 sacks. After earning second-team All-Pro honors last season, Allen is said to be seeking $25 million per season on his next contract.
2. OLB Nik Bonitto
Bonitto (25) earned his first career Pro Bowl nod and a second-team All-Pro selection after totaling 13.5 sacks and scoring two defensive touchdowns in 2024. He is now expected to start negotiations for a new deal at $23 million per year.
3. WR Courtland Sutton
Sutton (29) was set to earn about $13 million last season before the team added incentives that helped the receiver reach $15 million. Entering the final year of his contract, Sutton is now set to earn about $14 million in 2025. He'll want an extension (and a raise) soon.
4. DL John Franklin-Myers
Franklin-Myers (28) has made it abundantly clear on social media that he wants an extension sooner rather than later. His asking price is unknown, but Spotrac estimates JFM has a market value of $8.5 million, a small increase from his current $8 million salary.
5. DL Malcolm Roach
Of the five players on this list, Roach (26) seems the most likely to wait until next March to potentially be re-signed by Denver. That said, general manager George Paton has said Roach might have been the team's best free agent signing in 2024. Perhaps they'll now reward him with an extension beyond the 2025 campaign.
Broncos extensions candidates
- DL Zach Allen
- OLB Nik Bonitto
- WR Courtland Sutton
- DL John Franklin-Myers
- DL Malcolm Roach
Denver has a total of 35 players scheduled to become free agents in 2026. That list could be shrunk down to 30 by the time next March arrives.
