2025 NBA mock draft: Sixers select Texas scorer Tre Johnson at No. 5

The Philadelphia 76ers still have two games left on the docket in what has been a tough 2024-25 season. They were supposed to be one of the top contenders in the East, but instead went through an injury-riddled mess of a year that derailed any title hopes.

With that being said, the Sixers are focused on both player development and being in the best position possible to keep their top 6 protected draft pick. The draft lottery is on May 12 which will determine whether the Sixers keep their pick or not--it will convey to the Oklahoma City Thunder if it lands outside of the top 6.

With that being said, the Sixers are currently No. 5 in the lottery standings. ESPN's mock draft has them selecting Texas scorer Tre Johnson:

Johnson is a prototype for what many NBA teams are seeking at the wing position, standing 6-6 with a 6-10 wingspan, dynamic shotmaking prowess and the skill level, versatility and aggressiveness to create shots in bunches. He scored about 20 points per game and made 40% of his 3s in 2024-25, and he shouldn't have issues filling up the scoring column in the NBA.

One can argue that the Sixers don't need Johnson with the presence of Jared McCain and Tyrese Maxey on the roster, but they could always use more perimeter help and somebody who can put the ball in the basket. Johnson had a terrific season with Texas and one has to believe Philadelphia will strongly consider him with its lottery pick.
