2024-25 Varsity Maine All-State boys basketball team

Apr. 3—Nolan Ames, Camden Hills junior guard: Opposing coaches who faced Ames raved about the KVAC Class A Player of the Year's all-around ability. In addition to being an all-league defensive player and scoring his 1,000th career point, the 6-foot-3 guard led the KVAC in scoring (22.4 points) and was second in steals (3.3), sixth in rebounding (9.3) and fifth in assists (4.4).

Wyatt Benoit, Thornton Academy senior guard: Called "likely the best scorer in the state" by Thornton coach Mike Nelson, Benoit led all Class AA in scoring for a second consecutive season, averaging 25.1 points, and was one of three finalists for Mr. Maine Basketball. Also a repeat Varsity Maine All-State selection, Benoit tied for the AA South lead in steals (2.3 per game) and ranked third in shooting percentage (51.4%), fourth in free-throw shooting (81.0%) and fourth in rebounding (7.9).

Ty Bernier, Messalonskee senior guard: Bernier led the Eagles to the Class A North championship, with their season ending in an overtime loss to Falmouth in the state final. Bernier averaged 19.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists, and made 51 3-point baskets on 43% shooting from behind the arc.

Creighty Dickson, Windham senior guard: Dickson was the senior leader and all-around foundational key for the Eagles, who repeated as Class AA champions. Effective in transition and in the half-court set, the 6-foot-2 Dickson averaged 15.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists, made 54% of his shots, became the first Windham player to top 500 career rebounds, and capped his high school career with a team-high 16 points in the state final win against South Portland.

Manny Hidalgo, South Portland senior guard: A creative shot-maker who played much bigger than his listed 5-foot-7 height, Hidalgo led the Red Riots to the Class AA South championship by averaging 16.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.1 steals. He earned AA South first-team honors.

Gabe Lash, Medomak Valley senior forward: After leading the Panthers to the Class B South championship game and being named a finalist for Mr. Maine Basketball, Lash drew Varsity Maine All-State votes from across the state. The sturdy 6-5 forward, who could play inside and out, averaged 14.8 points, a KVAC-best 12.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists while making 53.1% of his shots.

Diing Maiwen, Edward Little senior forward: At 6-foot-6, Maiwen had the jumping ability to play above the rim. He was the SMAA Player of the Year and Class AA North Defensive Player of the Year, and is viewed by several coaches as the top college prospect in the Class of 2025. Maiwen averaged 18.5 points, nine rebounds, three assists and 2.5 blocks per game.

Davis Mann, Falmouth senior guard: Mann averaged 21.3 points in the regular season and shined even brighter in the postseason, scoring 39 points in the regional semifinals and 43 in Falmouth's Class A final overtime victory against Messalonskee. A top contender for Varsity Maine Player of the Year honors, Mann also averaged 4.3 rebounds and was a Class A South all-defensive selection.

Leo McNabb, Cheverus senior guard: A Class AA North first-team selection, McNabb led his league in scoring for a second straight season. The bouncy guard who excelled at getting to the rim and finishing averaged 19.6 points for the Stags, who finished first in the regular season with a 15-3 record. He also contributed 3.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 2.2 steals.

Theo Pow, Kennebunk senior forward: At times overshadowed in Class A South by Noble's Rose and Falmouth's Mann, Pow showed his skills with a regional postseason record-tying 42-point outburst in a quarterfinal win. The 1,000-point scorer and Colby College commit averaged 20.5 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.9 assists.
